KARACHI: A fighting force of over 1,500 personnel comprising naval and military commandos and Rangers regained control of naval air base, PNS Mehran, 16 hours after a band of four heavily-armed Taliban militants attacked the base, destroying two US-made surveillance planes and killing 10 military personnel.
KARACHI: President Asif Zardari told US Ambassador Anne Patterson a day after signing the Murree Declaration with PML-N head Nawaz Sharif that he and Mr Sharif had agreed that Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry would not be restored and reassured the then Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar that he need not worry about the declaration.

Newly released Wikileaks cables revealed that the US military’s drone strikes programme within Pakistan had more than just tacit acceptance of the country’s top military brass, despite public posturing to the contrary. The cables state that the country’s military was requesting the US for greater drone back-up for its own military operations as long ago as January 2008.
